Last week, I went to a nature trip near Istanbul. We make camping for two nights. It was nice; we walked in the forest, took many pictures.

This november was a little strange to me, I was happy and unhappy in the same time : ) a little complicated.

I started to play chess, and read new books. I wish, I could start to play chess more earlier, because I feel it's very evaluating your brain, and force you to think strategically. The book I'm reading is 48 laws of power, a best-seller..

All will be better. Just experience, and Don't stop, go on.

Things I want to do in short term

- play table tennis.
- run, and make a little fitness. (I already run 2-3 times a week for 3 kms).
- play football once in a month.
- visit balkans and middle east.
- make a good investment ( probable a house near the metro line)
- have a helicopter trip on Istanbul.
- program some applications for business.
- find good music to listen, and go to concerts.
- watch "Lie to me" tv serie.

Hey.. I don't give any news since long times.. My mind was occupied
with some other things..
The picture above, has the meaning in turkish, "the last exit before
the bridge". It is a decision point.. I had many ones this year.
In these moments, you have to choose a thing, and refuse other
alternatives. This is a fucking moment unfortunately. And until now I
couldn't really find a practical and best way for resolving situation
like this.

After Greece Trip

Ok. Here is the story of the trip.

Friday, 4th september 2010; I got a mail, it was saying that the project planned for monday and tuesday was cancelled. So this was the trigger, I suddenly thought to make a trip. I had already many things in my mind since long times. Now, I could realize it because there was 9 days of vacation. Then, first thing I did was to go to my directors room, and I got the permission taken.

After I went to my house, and started to research ticket prices for different alternatives.. Italy wasn't cheap, and in other countries there wasn't something which attracts me.. So, I just figured out about Greece: "There, I have my friend Deniz, I can visit him..". We lastly spoke him three weeks ago, and I already asked him if I can visit him.. But I really didn't know that it could be so quick : ) Then, I sent him a message from facebook for asking him if all is OK. The funny thing is that there was a problem of communication: A little hard to tell but we went to Athens in the same day but with different airplanes : ) Very funny ha?

So, when I arrive to athens I walked, and meet new people. Then went to Rhodes. Then took a ferry to Marmaris turn back to Istanbul. Greek people I met, are very friendly. This is a very nice country full of culture and nature. With Deniz we had a very good conversation; and also I met with very nice CS friends.
I'll tell about details of trip in the next post.

Every trip teaches me things about people, cultures, life. I hope this trip changed me a little, because I have things that I want to change..

Greece Trip

Yes! I'm doing it right now. I'm writing this post while I'm in the
boat. I took it from Athens, Piraeus, and I'm going to Rhodes right
now.
This trip, was something called, Last Minute : ) Last time I did
this, it was Prague trip..
I just decided to go to somewhere, and decided to visit Greece. As I
have my friend Deniz there, it was quite easy to organize.
But, there was lots of surprise.. I meet new people, and get new ideas...
I'll tell them, in my next post, I guess after reaching to Istanbul.

Was it a dream? No, I guess : )

I was thinking to visit Czech Republic since 1-2 months, but I wasn't so available. So, at first april, after leaving my work; I just checked the flight prices from internet, and then I decided to depart the day after. It was a little surprise : ) So, I went directly to Brno where I met my friend who works there. I stayed there 2 nights, we went to Van Dyk party and other night clubs.. It was very cool, we eat in czech food in very good restaurants, and drink absinth, beer in good bars. Then, we left Brno and arrived to Prague.

Prague is a very nice city with full of culture and history. There is many things to see and do. The thing which surprised me, it's cheaper from Istanbul. I hope I'll go to there one more time...

Things done:
- Walked in the old/new town,
- Met a CS member, visited the castle
- Met a czech friend which I knew from Amiens during my master studies
- Went to Classical Music Concert in Municipal Hall (Vivaldi-Four Seasons)
- Walked along the river, and visited a beatifull cimetery at Vysehrad

I'm thinking a lot about future and career.. I hope, I'll find the solution..
At least a friend said that I'll find it : )
In Turkey we have a tradition for fortune telling. After drinking the
coffee, my friend look at the coffee cup and saw a key. Then, she said
that I'll find the resolution soon : )

21 February, it means last sunday, I went to a "theatre" which was very "interesting".

I put all the notions in quotes, because in fact it was very strange, and meaningless.

In summary, in the performance there was a visual show, and they played a song about 10 times.

Since two days I'm curious about the meaning of this performance. They said, they'll send a mail soon about the meaning...

Yesterday I went to the concert of Shantel. We danced much.

The thing which made it more funny, is that it was a last minute concert

: )

I bought the tickets three days ago, but the morning I got an sms
which says that the concert is cancelled because of the snow.

Then, at 22:00 I visited the internet site of the concert place
(babylon), it was saying that Shantel will be there at 23 o'clock.

So, I put on my clothes, and run to the bus station in 5 min (normally it takes 10 to walk)
Everything was fine, I was on time.. And then, the concert began : )

Museum day

Yesterday was a good day. I went to a concert in Sultanahmet and then visited archeological museum with a very close friend.

The most precious piece is a sarcophagus which came from Sidon, Lebanon used by phoenician king.

There's very interesting, mystical things in this museum.. This makes me curious about history of civilizations like, phoenicia, hittites, urartus, persians etc..

I'm curious about ghettos... I guess, it's because these are places which we hear a lot, but can't visit just in a sunny day like that.

So, in Istanbul, they want to destroy a very old gipsy district, and want to build high class buildings.

I think, the best solution is to rehabilitate people living there, and build traditional new houses for them; and make this area a touristical place; so that they can make money.

As Sulukule became very popular, I think they can be successfull.

This is the only solution, or else they'll continue to be smashed.

But I guess, the one which makes the project don't care about them, they care about money.

What did I hope, What did I find in 2009?

The most important action I did in 2009 was to participe to the army. I'm happy to complete this mission, because it means that I'll be free all my life which remains.

So now, I'm somebody more organised and focused.

With 2009, I started to my career as a junior SAP BI consultant; and I guess I'll continue to do it.

Once again, I witnessed that the destiny decides all:

First at october 2008 the economic crisis: a bad time for searching a job. I could find it easily, and started to work at november 2008.

It was at december 2008, I registered to a MBA master program.. It was meaning that I postponed military service for three years..

But, the program is cancelled by the board of university at january 2009... So, I decided to go to army at february...

You see, suddenly the normal run of things is changed.

You know how they say, life is beatifull..

The thing which is good at 2010, is that it will be Istanbul's year.

I hope that, it will be mine also!!!!!

Since one month, I'm thinking about buying a folding bike...

Choosing the bike is a little hard for me...

Here is two options that I have... What do you suggest?

My idea is to visit all Istanbul after buying one of them. I guess, the second option is more suitable for this.

First is about 300 € , second one is 400 € .
First is 12 kg, second 13 kg.

UNDERGROUND ISTANBUL >>Tarlabasi district

Is Tarlabasi a ghetto? Maybe... I can say it's like the Harlem, for us..

This is an area which lies the spirit of Istanbul... At least, a part of it.

So, today I could make a little trip to there: I just could take the main street (Kalyoncu Kulluğu). I entered, and get out in 10 mins.

At every corner, there was a strange man, I guess they sale some weed... It's like a place where nobody wants to live.

I don't know why, but this district was always attracting me. A dangerous underground place. As something that your mom tells not to do : )

And the district is attracting me more, after watching the movie Agir Roman (turkish movie made at 1996)...

The movie was taken in Kurdela Sokak...

That movie has an important place for me. Because, when I was in the army, everybody was wanting me to play this movie.. I asked this to my commander, but he didn't allowed. Now, I understand why these guys wanted to watch it, and why my commander didn't allow : )

Because, this is a cult movie of Ghetto...

So, 50 is the number of days after that I left the army...

-> Bought very comfortable shoes from Slazenger

-> a winter jacket and an umbrella from tchibo (very good quality and cheap price)

- Searched and Applied for new jobs..
->passed about 5 job interview but there is no result until now

- Went to familly firm to help for some stuff
-> NAS with 1 tb capacity (WD world edition - network attached storage) for backuping and downloading new movies..
-> I'm developing an application for tracing the production
-> Reporting
-> ****

- Watched movies
-> Heat, District 9, Agir Roman, Barda, Heat, wall E

- Met with friends...
-> visited many places in Istanbul (sultanahmet, galata, beyoglu, kadikoy, ortakoy ..)
-> did a bosphorus trip
-> rahmi koc museum

- searched for new business ideas

- took a new passport

- walked everyday minimum for 20-30 mins..

Yes, finally... The army story is finished (158 days!) .

At 17 september, I walked out the main gate of the base... And I didn't even turn back...
It was a happy moment ;)

I took an airplane, then I was in Istanbul...

I feel still a little strange, when I think about the fact that I'm at home :o)

Now, I'll be free for doing what I want. Let's wait, and see what happens....

By the way, It's sad that I couldn't swim last summer...

Stock Markets

Stock Markets is something which I'm following since one year. All is started at october 2008.

After participating to general meeting of Galatasaray sport club, I decided to learn about finance.

Because everybody were talking about financial tables for getting a bank loan; and I couldn't understand nothing about it.

So I bought most selling books about economy, finance and read stock markets internet sites..

(for example: The Instant Economist by Ross M. laroe, John Charles Pool)

Then, I started to invest a little money, and understood how to do investment for future.

The thing that I learnt: the place for making lots of money is not stock markets; because it could only make you earn x2, x3 of your capital.

If you want more, you shall have an IDEA and you will win x30, x100.

I hope I will find it in near future...

Thoughts

Only two weeks remains by now. I can say since my last post, there is some changements:

At my last post, I was saying that it was passing like holiday.

At august, I participated to two ceremonies which made me very tired. We stayed stand up about 4-5 hours non stop (we did about 3-4 training days before the ceremonies).

The thing which made me angry is that they choosed only me among 200 people for participating to these ceremonies.

When I think about these moments right now, I can say they will be one of memories I won't forget : \

So august was fastest month for me during the army...

At last saturday, a soldier came next to me and asked if I can teach him "high school" level mathematics. He quited high schooI at second class. I started to show him how to find line equations, then I noticed that he doesn't even know how to do operations with fractions.

For example, I asked him two questions, and he couldn't answer unfortunately : (
--> 3a = 1; a=?
--> 1+1/2 = ?

It made me show how our education system is bad.
During all my military service, the notion which made me think the most is "Logic". Maybe, in the army, a soldier doesnt't need to have a logic, he should be only phsically enough for fighting and need a basic brain for doing his mission. So, that'sa the type of men that I meet generally these days...

Hey Friends! I hope, everyone is going fine.

Here, in Konya, life is going well. I can say, since my last blog entry, the army seems very cool to me.
The people that I come across on the floor, are no more strange people for me. It means since two months, I met lots of new people.

The war planes and acrobatic squadron flying over the sky make me feel like I'm in a holiday camp.

Some of my opinions about army started to change, I think the army is a must see at least for 1-2 month. There is many colorfull people to meet here.
Generally, the level of education is very low. But, it's a good thing, all of these people make you realise, and notice other kind of people.

What I'm doing during the army...

Two months passed in the army made me think about many things; family, friends, city, carrier.

Sometimes, I feel that it's a big waste of time. But It's for sure, there is some good parts...

Firstly, life in the army is very social . It's a good opportunity to meet people of all kind. Generally people are cool, but also there is
some problematic friends (who uses drogs, and who damages theirselves with blades)...

Secondly, it makes you stronger psychologically and physically. I didn't know that I could be so patient to these conditions..

Since 2 weeks, I'm very cool in Konya, I guess it'll continue like that. I'm responsable of the cinema of the military base. During week days, I play documentaries about republic and Ataturk. And week-ends, we watch holywood movies.

So,the most difficult part of the army is finished.
The first part was hard; we walked about hundred kms, and waited for hours without sitting under the sun (max 12 hours in one day)...

Now, we are counting days, only 95 day is left.

It is the most known airforce military base in Turkey. Every year, in Konya airforce military base they organize international military operations with US, UK and some other countries.

It's for about 3 weeks I'm here.

And I can say, sometimes I feel good but sometimes it is true that it is a waste of time.

We'll see, I hope I won't have any problem

Driving into the wild

Last saturday, the weather was good, so I decided to make a motorcycle trip about 70-80 kms in 5-6 hours .

I drove into the jungle, into the wild : )

It was quite perfect. I discovered many cute places..

I also want to say that, the decision is officially taken, I'll go to military service at 12 april.

For now the place and the length is unknown, they'll decide at 10 april. I had an exam two days ago.. I will write a post about : )

Last saturday, we had excellent time with people from Couchsurfing.

I'm very happy that this site exists, everytime I meet such cool people; and we do very interesting events.. (this was my 5th event: two in Paris, three in Istanbul). I hope I will experience as much as I can...

This time, we visited an old district of Istanbul.. We climbed to city walls and then to a minaret. It was the first time that I did these things.

With Al from Germany, Kjelti from Canada, Stephen from USA, and Meric, Ünsal, Sibel from Istanbul.

Today, I met with Sam from UK also Hakan from Istanbul. We had a motorcycle trip in Asia side of Istanbul with Sam.

Two movie at same time: Cloverfield - 28 Weeks later

I watched two movies yesterday, first is Cloverfield which is a very different and also notable movie from the producer of Lost. It made me feel like, I'm playing a computer game like Half-life. Because, all the movie is taken with a handy cam.

The second is 28 weeks later. I think, it was an original zoombie movie but a little weird... Because of that movie, I could'nt sleep well last night.

Yalova Trip

As these are my last days before joining the army, I decided to profit all the spare time I have. So every weekend, I'm planning to do what I was dreaming before :o)

I realized the first part of this by going to Yalova.

Yalova is a very cute place, full of forest and also it has thermal water sources. So, first, I had a trip with motorcycle into the deep forest, then I went to thermal sources. I swimmed in very hot water. It was funny, also I met there some new people. I hope, It'll possible to go to there next time with friends.

Joining to the army

Today, I made a demand for joining to the army. I don't know if they'll accept... We'll see.

Normally, I should go at the end of next july, but I wanted to do it asap; because I thought that the economic crisis can be a good opportunity for finishing military service.

The duration will be 6 or 12 months. It is the army who will decide it according to his need.

Military service is still an obligatory in Turkey, you can only postpone it by having master studies until 35 years old.

Absoulutey, a must watch! Robert De Niro was very good in the movie...

A cool mosque from North Cyprus (it became a mosque at 16th century)

Originally, the church is built when Richard Coeur de Lion was in Island.

Historically, Cyprus was a military base during croisades, on the way for Jerusalem

I'm planning a trip for Cyprus North in april. (I guess, 23-24-25-26 april). Everybody who want to join, please ask it! The budget is about 250-300 euros.

Cyprus is a very interesting place, its history and its nature is very different. Here is some highlights:

-It is a very strategical place for controlling Middle East (thats why UK has a military base there)

-In 1570, Cyprus is conquered by Ottomans (before that time, Island was belonging to Venetians, and also Richard Coeur de Lion)

-In 1878, UK and Ottomans agreed that the island will be loaned to UK. (Ottomans were in a very difficult situtation because of Russians, that's why they accepted it)

-During WWI, UK declared the annexation; because Ottomans were ally with Germans.

- After the agreement of Lausanne (1923), Turks accepted to give the island to UK. (Turkey and Greece had a statue guarantor on the Island with this agreement)

- After 1923, the situation is complex... A new republic is founded at 1960 called Cyprus Republic. But, because of conlicts between Turks and Greeks, Turkey made a "Peace Operation" at 1974. And a new republic called "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus" is founded.

- The only country who recognizes North Cyprus is Turkey.

- Now, North Cyprus is like a free zone for Turkey. The tax is less then Turkey, the Casinos are legal (it's not in Turkey) and there is many international universities.

And also, another interesting point, there is many many students from Iran who comes here for studying....

- EU accepted Cyprus as a whole country but in fact, only Greek part can profit it.

- United Nations proposed a solution for the current problem but Greek part blocked it.

I guess, for this the best vehicule is a van; because it has enough space, you can modify it. (I think to put a large bed in it)

If you didn't visit Istanbul before, or want to revisit; this time you shall not throw away this opportunity.

For example, since 16 years, the wonder of Istanbul, Hagia Sophia was in restoration. It is only now that they started to remove the cage which is constructed below the dome.
This thing was hiding the beauty of the dome (look at the picture)

The best season for Istanbul, I guess it is may, because there is tulips everywhere .(Tulip is the national symbol for Turkey. research it from wikipedia). August, July can be very hot. September also is fine.

Since two months, with some exceptions, I'm working generally from home.

Sometimes, I like it, sometimes I don't. Because it becomes harder to discipline yourself.

But, it is a good experience anyway.

Actually, one of the top discussion in Turkey is about the relations with Armenians..

The first plan above, shows the frontiers before the WWI (1914), and the second one, shows the frontier after the treaty of sevres. Austria-Hungary and Ottoman Empires are crashed after this war.

Ottomans played a game in WWI, and lost a lot of its territories.. Nothing to do.

It is the same for Armenians. Neither of us won.

So, who did win?

I believe, this conflict was organized by alliance countries ( surely UK was aware of everything, also Russia; these things make remember me the movie Braveheart, )

A new job

I found a job last month (since first november) in a young company. They are specialized in SAP BW consulting. For now, I'm working from home. I read documentations (about 1000 pages) and practice the system. I guess in one month, I'll participate to a project (unilever).

SAP is the most common software (%40 of the market) used in big enterprises (especially the global ones). Because, this huge system has lots of flexibilities, it supports many languages, many accounting systems, and it is independent from other database technologies.

The module I'm working on, basically is the reporting part of the system. So, it help the users to make analyses with reporting tools. For any department in an enterprise: Sales, Production, Procurement, HR, Accounting etc..

All this can be done with Office Excel, in small enterprises, but as big companies has big volume of data, they need a system for managing it.

SAP BW is a system for providing and organizing all these reports. Think the enterprises which sell millions of products. So, as the data is huge, the BW system also has huge functionalities.

Zeitgeist The Movie, this is a documentary made in 2007, I think everybody shall watch it, maybe it is a conspirancy theory, maybe not. It tells about religion and financial system. Also, it explains 9/11 facts.

Paris Combo, they are wonderfull... If you also like Pink Martini, you'll adore them.

Especially, their song -attraction- is great. It's a pitty that I discovered them only now. Because, I was listening their song -Istanbul- since 2 years; but I wasn't aware that it was them who sing this. (the tag of the song was wrongly written, the singer was named as "Carla Bruni" in the mp3 : \ )

Above, is a picture of a weird machine :) Its name is the Turk, this is why I find it more interesting. The inventor of the machine, presented this thing as an automated chess machine but, in fact there was somebody in the machine who was controlling the moves. So, they were cheating people.

So, the inventor became very famous, with this very succesfull machine :o)

Politiki Kouzina

Yesterday, I watched a greek movie called "Politiki Kouzina", I like it a lot.

It talks about historical relations with greeks and turks. The story tells this story from greek side. Unfortunately, many greek familly are forced to leave Istanbul (greeks call it, Constantinapolis ;) ), after the Turkish Republic founded. The same thing happened in greek side, lots of turks left Greece. The population exchange is made only by looking to the religion.

The exchange is made many times, 1924 and between 1950-1960. I think, Turkey lost a good human resource, it is a pitty. But this is politics : \

One month ago, I met with two greeks who had same situation at 1960's.

This situation is caused by political crisis happened because of Cyprus Island.

In excel, there is a utility called Pivot table. Maybe you already know, it is very smart, you can use it a lot when reporting.

If you have data somewhere, (in another excel file, or database), it is very simple to create pivot tables.

You can also use, numbergo as an alternative program for this. The essential is that you have accurate data.

Tarlabasi, is a very interesting district of Istanbul. But, unfortunately it is not safe to walk there. I'm planning to drive to there one day with scooter. Sulukule district also is in my list.

In old times, like 19th century, these were very rich countries, their residents were jews, greeks and armenians. So the buildings are very beautfull. After, all these people left these buildings alone (because of politics; search greek&turk relation between 1919-1960) and generally gitanes comes in place of them.

Northern Iraq

After the thing happened today (15 turkish soldier died near Iraq frontier, at the point marked on the picture), I think that, Turkey have to occupy northern Iraq for a while. At least, until there is a more powerfull government in Iraq.

Because, it is almost impossible to make defense at this region due to geographical conditions (lots of mountains).

We shall advance until Kerkuk and Mosoul which are very strategical zones.

I guess nobody will let us do that, because Kerkuk and Mousoul's situation is a very complicated case. (These places are very rich oil zones).

I also belive that the actual frontier designed after WWI is wrong.

You shall research the region history to understand the current situation.

Hey!

It's for saying that I'm fine. But on Monday I had a car accident. It was the day before the national holiday which is 9 days. So, the roads were almost empty, but it was raining. I had my cousin going to Pologne (Krakow), my familly told me to accompany them to airport.

Everything is fine, thanks to God. The accident was serious, but we had luck.This is because of a car which forced me to change the line (the driver had no license), then another car hit me from the back. My speed was about 90 kms, the car who hit me was about 120 (maybe more). He made us hit the barriers then made us turn 360 degree on the road.

Unfortunately the report which is written by the police was invented for protecting the driver with no-licence.

I think the car will go to the trash. It is not very very serious, the car had insurance. But, the fact that there isn't justice made me uncomfortable for a while.

Now, I'm not sad, because I belive that, one day these people will pay their faults. (I hope, I can find video records which show road situation at the accident location. Today, I sent a mail to police department about the case.)

When we look to the world, we see lots of things which are happening. Lots of people are died and still continue to die because of wars for getting the power.

Sometimes, the problems we have in the life become meaningless when we think these people life's. People in Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Africa they are sacrificed.

Shell company signed a new agreement for 4 billion dollars with Iraq. Iraq and Shell will share this money for %50. I really hope that at least %10 this money will be spent for people who live in misery.

This stat below show oil production and revenue after the occupation of Iraq.

Selimiye Mosque Dome (Edirne)

Here is the translation of the main pray of Islam Religion.

In Turkey, people speaks turkish, and most of them don't know arab.
So, it seems me very strange that, people pray in a knowledge that they don't understand.
People generally memorize the prays, and forgot their sense.

Christians also were praying in latin in the middle age. I don't know if this thing (to pray in a language that we don't understand) still continues in europe countries except Vatican.

When I was in France, I saw the fathers who pray in latin but they were not accepted by the church,and they could only make their ceremonies at the garden of the church.

So, the prays, when we don't understand them, I think they are like magic words, for sure it make us feel the spiritual atmosphere;but, I think that, they are useless if we don't understand.

After the republic of Turkey, Ataturk changed lots of things. Turks started to use latin alphabet in place of arab alphabet that they were using since 8th-9th century.

The call for prays (ezan) began to be made in turkish.

We don't know, if Ataturk wanted to do same thing for prays also.

But, after 1940; the call for prays became one more time arab.

Searching a job

Last thursday, 4th september , I returned to Istanbul.

I can say my adventure of Europe finished. If I wanted, I could find a job in Europe, but the conditions made me choose Turkey (familly, friends etc). There wasn't so much thing which motivated me to stay in France.

Now, I want to find a good place to work here. Generally, firms want to recrute people who completed its military service, so finding a job in this condition it is harder.

The military service in Turkey it is obligatory, and it is not possible to refuse it. It takes 6 month or 1 year, the duration depends on the need of army.

It is one week that I left Istanbul. Our trip (with Matthieu) by car was very good but a little tiring.

Wednesday night we slept in a beach near Thessaloniki.Than, we crossed adriatic sea with a ferry, and friday morning we were at Ancona. Then, we eat a pizza in Torino. Then that night we crossed France-Italy border, and slept in the tent near the highway.

The morning, we arrived to Clermont Ferrand. my friend Matthieu showed me approximately all beauties of the Auvergne region.
Then, monday morning I left him, and took the train for Grenoble, and met Ihsan.

Wednesday, I was in Geneve, Switzerland.
Thursday, I was in Annecy.

And tomorrow I'm going to Lyon.

o Middle east (Iraq, Iran, Palestine, Israel)
o Balkans (Serbia, Kosovo, Bosnia)

I don't know maybe Turkey shall leave his " light " politics. Because, generally we only watch the things which happens.

Absolutely, it is not our fault only; EU also forces us to do nothing.
